Trainerize cost auditor
See what Trainerize, TrueCoach, or MyPTHub really costs once fees and bolt-on admin are in. Then compare it to owning your own app, and find out when that pays for itself.
Your current platform
Your time
Bolt-on time covers the spreadsheets, WhatsApp threads, separate booking and payment tools, and manual data shuffling that the platform doesn't handle. Most trainers underestimate this by a couple of hours.
Where the money goes
True monthly cost
True annual cost
What your platform really costs
Your platform sticker price is £60/month. Add the transaction fees and the hours you spend on bolt-ons, and the real cost is £14,900/year.
Transaction fees are the platform's cut on the £4,800/month you bill through it. Time cost values your bolt-on hours at your hourly rate. Both depend on your setup.
What owning your app saves you
Renting a platform
Your own app (PT Core)
Based on a £14,500 PT Core build and £200/month running cost. Saving assumes you drop the subscription, move to direct payment processing, and a custom app removes about 75% of bolt-on admin. Actual costs vary with scope. This is cost saving only, before any revenue upside from a better client experience.

What your platform really costs
The monthly fee is the part you see. The real cost is the fee plus the platform's transaction cut on everything you bill through it, plus the hours you spend on the bits the platform doesn't handle: booking, chasing payments, spreadsheets, and WhatsApp. This auditor adds all three so you can see the true annual number.

When owning beats renting
Renting a platform costs the same every month and leaves you with nothing. A custom app is a one-off build cost for software you own, with low running costs and no per-client fee. The auditor compares your true annual cost to our PT Core tier (£14,500 build, around £200/month to run) and works out the payback period and your 3-year net position.
For most trainers the maths starts favouring a build somewhere north of 30 active clients. Curious where your number lands? Read custom PT software vs Trainerize, TrueCoach and MyPTHub, or check where the gym floor caps your income with the PT calendar ceiling calculator.
Everything trainers ask us about platform costs
What does Trainerize actually cost?
Trainerize's headline plans run from around $9/month (about £7) for 2 clients up to $248/month (about £195) for a Studio location, but the real cost is higher once you add the things sold separately: nutrition coaching ($20 to $45/month), video coaching ($10/month), and payments ($10/month plus Stripe processing). This auditor adds your transaction fees and the hours you lose to bolt-ons so you see the true number, not the sticker price.
How is this different from a custom app?
On Trainerize, TrueCoach, or MyPTHub you rent software with someone else's branding and pay every month forever, with nothing to show at the end. A custom build (our PT Core tier) is a one-off cost for an app you own outright, branded as you, with no per-client platform fee. The auditor estimates when the build pays for itself and your 3-year net position.
Should I count transaction fees as a saving?
Only the platform's cut. Some platforms take a percentage on top of standard payment processing. When you own your app you process payments directly (Stripe charges roughly 1.5% to 2.9% either way), so the platform's added markup is what you stop paying. Set the transaction fee slider to the percentage your current platform takes.
What counts as bolt-on admin time?
The work the platform doesn't do for you: separate booking tools, payment chasing, WhatsApp threads, spreadsheets for anything the app can't handle, and copying data between systems. Most trainers underestimate it. A custom app built around your workflow removes most of it, which is where the bigger saving usually sits.
Can I share my results?
Yes. Hit 'Share this audit' and the current URL copies to your clipboard with your inputs embedded, so a business partner or accountant can open the exact same numbers.
Who is this auditor for?
Personal trainers and online coaches who feel their platform is getting expensive as their roster grows, or who are tired of paying monthly for software they'll never own. If you've got 30 or more paying clients, the numbers usually start favouring a custom build.
